Living Doll, owned and skippered by Michael Hiatt is registered at Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, Williamstown, Melbourne, Australia.
She was launched in Auckland, 2004 and is a Cookson 50. Built by Mike Cookson of Cookson Boats of New Zealand. It was Mike Cookson’s brainchild and concept to build a fast 50 foot racer.
“I wanted a 50-footer that was fast and safe, there was no production racing boat on the market oriented towards performance,” Mick Cookson says
Cookson commissioned Farr Yacht designers to further develop his ideas anddesign the hull shape.
Living Doll keel is constructed using Carbon Fibre, weighs 7400 kg and is 50 foot long with a 19.80 metre high carbon mast. Living Doll has a 3.25 metre canting keel .
Due to Handicapping, in 2005 a decision was made to pin the keel and race ‘non canting’, this Division proved to be fruitful as race results below show.
- Melbourne to Stanley 2006 – 1st IRC
- Melbourne to Apollo Bay 2006 – 1st IRC
- Sydney to South Port 2005/06 – 1st 50 foot Division
